How many domains and inboxes do you need for cold email?

The per-inbox limit
A warmed inbox can safely send roughly 20 to 30 cold emails a day. Push past that and open rates drop and spam complaints climb. This is the number everything else is built on.
Domains and inboxes
- Use 2-3 inboxes per sending domain, no more.
- Use dedicated lookalike domains, never your primary company domain.
- So for ~1,000 emails/day: about 15-20 inboxes across 5-8 domains.
The non-negotiables
Every domain needs SPF, DKIM, and DMARC set up, plus a warmup period of a few weeks before real sending. Skip the warmup and even perfect infrastructure dies in week one. (Our deliverability guide covers the setup in detail.)
